We warmly invite you to the solo art exhibition “Reflections of Liberty” by Natalka Barvinok, an artist whose work is a profound exploration of the human condition, identity, and freedom. This exhibition, hosted at the Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center, runs from September 19 to November 2, 2024, and features a compelling collection of sculptures and paintings that challenge and inspire the viewer.

Art Statement

In “Reflections of Liberty,” I delve into the essence of freedom—not just as a societal construct but as a deeply personal journey toward self-awareness and liberation from the confines of the mind. The exhibition’s title piece, a self-portrait with reflections of the Statue of Liberty and a seagull in flight, encapsulates the dual nature of liberty as both a communal and individual experience. The sunglasses in the portrait act as a metaphorical lens, through which we each view the world, shaped by our histories, desires, and hopes.

Freedom, to me, is not a static concept; it is a pulsation of consciousness, an evolving state that requires constant reflection and reevaluation. My works represent the mind as a fertile ground for creativity, where thoughts bloom like flowers, reaching out toward new possibilities and higher states of awareness.

The philosophical underpinnings of my work are deeply influenced by my Ukrainian heritage, where the concept of resilience is central. Through my art, I seek to convey that true liberty begins within, in the way we think, perceive, and ultimately, act. It is a personal journey, reflected in the motifs of nature, introspection, and transcendence that recur throughout my work.

Invitation to the Viewer

I invite you to explore these themes with me at “Reflections of Liberty.” This exhibition is not just an array of artworks; it is a dialogue—a space where viewers can confront their own notions of freedom, identity, and the often complex journey toward self-realization.

Join us at the opening reception on September 19, 2024, at The Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center, where you can meet the artist, engage with the artworks, and be part of a conversation that goes beyond the canvas and sculpture. Together, let’s reflect on what liberty means in our lives today.
